The Great Britain Mens Ice Hockey Team made it two wins out of two on Sunday afternoon with a hard fought victory over Korea in the IIHF World Championships in Slovenia.
The opening 20 minutes saw both teams fighting for an upper hand as the fast and skillful Koreans tried to break down the more experienced GB Team. Both Stevie Lyle and Sung Je Park were kept busy as both teams swarmed around each others goals. Despite GB being outshot by 8-11 in the first period, the game remained goalles at the end of the period. |

The Great Britain Mens Ice Hockey team got off to a winning start at the World Championships on Saturday afternoon, despite a 26 hour coach journey to get to the event in Ljubljana in Slovenia.
The team only arrived a few hours before their opening game, which saw them take on Croatia. A tense opening period saw both teams come close to opening the scoring before GB took the lead on 4.48 through Jonathan Phillips, with an assist from Rob Dowd. |

GB Under 18's have lost narrowly to Kazakhstan by one goal to nil today.
The only goal of the game game at 7.31 in the first period when Rakhmanov scored an even handed goal. GB were outshot by just three shots 22-25. GB will be looking towards their match tomorrow night against a tough host team of Poland which they will need to win to keep a medal hope alive. |

Following the disruption to the travel plans, after the Icelandic Volcanic eruption, the first batch of GBSC members have now arrived in Lake Bled. The initial group left Stanstead at 1pm (UK) on Thursday and arrived at 1pm (UK) on Friday having been forced to travel by Coach across France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria and finaly into Slovenia !
The next group are currently travelling across Europe by coach, and should arrive in time for the first game of the World Championships on Saturday afternoon (1pm local, noon UK). The GB Team are also having to make the journey via coach, and are due to arrive on Saturday morning. The IIHF have this morning announced that the opening 2 games of the championships have been switched, so the 1pm game is now Korea v Hungary, whilst GB v Croatia have now been moved to 4.30pm (local) More GBSC members are expected over the weekend as flights return to some resemblance of normality. |

ICE HOCKEY UK MEDIA RELEASE Thompson names team for 2010 World Championships in Slovenia After back to back warm up wins against fellow Division One nation, The Netherlands last weekend, Great Britain Head Coach, Paul Thompson has today named the 23 players that will represent the senior national team at the 2010 World Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The team will fly to Slovenia on Friday this week and will take on Croatia, Korea, Hungary, Poland and the hosts in the six team Division One group. Thompson has confirmed that the twenty-one players who defeated The Netherlands 4-2 in Nottingham on Saturday and 2-0 in Sheffield on Sunday, are all included in the team. They will be joined by Ashley Tait who is currently involved in the Italian League play off final with his team Ritten Renon. Tait will join up with the rest of the team as soon as his play offs are complete. Nathan Craze will travel with the team as emergency goalie cover whilst Swindon Wildcats winger, Aaron Nell has been placed on standby in the event of any further injuries before the tournament. David Longstaff, Tom Watkins, Greg Owen, Kyle Horne, Mark Thomas and Marc Levers are all forced to miss the World Championships through injury, whilst Shane Johnson (retirement), David Phillips and Jody Lehman (both club commitments) are also unavailable for the tournament. |
