Great Britain Under-20s second game at the Cherepanov Cup ended in defeat as they are beaten 6-1 by a strong Russian Omsk Hawks side.

Josh Cook, who was named as GB's player of the game, scored the only goal for his side in the third period.

It was a battling performance from the British youngsters and in five-on-five open play they only conceded one, with the Hawks netting four times on the powerplay and also a penalty shot.

Coach Martin Grubb said: "We are obviously disappointed at the result after a positive start yesterday.

"But this is a huge learning curve for the group. We played a very good Hawks team, who are aggressive and physical.

It was with great sadness that GBSC learnt today (13 Aug) that Brian had passed away after a long illness throughout which he displayed great courage and humour.

Brian and Marion, along with their great friends Bernard and Beryl, had been regulars on our April World Championship trips for many years. Their prodigious humour was known and loved by all and their wind ups were the stuff of legend. They were known affectionately as the Saga Louts.

Brian came across as a quiet gentle man with a wicked sense of humour and he will be sorely missed by those who follow GB ice hockey.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Marion and their family.

We have all lost a great friend.

Rest in Peace Brian.
