2014 SochiGreat Britain Women have lost their first game at the Olympic pre-qualifiers in Group E in China on Thursday.

GB were beaten 7-0 by France with period scores of 0-1, 0-2 and 0-4 as Simon Manning’s side came up short against a side ranked 16th in the world.

Manning said: “The girls played two periods of great hockey followed by a frustrated third.

“Looking to the next game against China, we hope to take the positive first two periods of the play to the Chinese.”

Hand Forced To Make Changes PDF Print E-mail

OlympicsGB Mens Head Coach Tony Hand has been forced to make changes to this team for the upcoming 2014 Olympic Pre-Qualification tournament in Japan next week.

Nottingham Panthers forward David Clarke and Sheffield Steelers defenceman Rod Sarich have unfortunately had to withdraw through injury and will be replaced Stevie Lee (Nottingham Panthers) and Leigh Jamieson (Milton Keynes Lightning).
 
Hand said: “It a real shame that David and Rod are not able to travel and they would’ve been key players for us.
 
“But Stevie and Leigh are more than capable replacements and are a welcome addition to the squad.”
 
Great Britain fly out to Japan on Monday ahead of their first game with Korea on Friday 9th November 2012. They will also face Romania aswell as hosts Japan in the tournament that runs from the 9-11 November. GB are the top seeds in the group.

gb u18 womenGreat Britain Under-18 Women missed out on a place in the next stage after losing 4-3 to Slovakia in their final World Championship Division One qualifier match in Dumfries.

GB found themselves 1-0 within the first minute when Patricia Gorecka put Slovakia ahead in a all or nothing game for both teams. Great Britains drew level 2 minutes later when Peterboroughs Kim Lane scored her 3rd goal of the tournament to make it a 1-1 game. 

The second period started with GB pushing forward and on 25.46 they were awarded a penalty shot after Barbora Lateckova led on the puck to kill a GB attack. GB Captain Beth Scoon took the resulting penalty shot, but could only watch in despair as her effort failed to find the back of the net. The penalty miss spurred on the visitors who then went on to find the back of the net 3 times to dominated the rest of the period. Iveta Klimasova gave Slovakia a 2-1 lead on 26.40, beforeNatalia Palova extended the lead to 3-1 after 31.34. The game seemed to be all over on 37.25 when GB found themselves 4-1 down thanks to Denisa Lalikova's powerplay goal.

GB Women Name Olympic Squad PDF Print E-mail

OlympicsThe Great Britain Women's team has been named for the upcoming 2014 Sochi Olympic Pre-Qualification tournament. The Tournament will be held in Shanghai, China from 8th to 11th November and wil see GB face hosts China aswell as France and the Netherlands.

The winner of the group will progress to a European hosted Qualification Tournament to be held in February 2013.

 The team includes a number of members of the Great Britailn Under 18 Woments team who narrowly missed out on qualification for the World Championships in last weeks qualification tournament.

Third Win For GB Women PDF Print E-mail

Great Britain will play Slovakia on Thursday for a place in the World Championship in Switzerland in the new year. 

Wednesday’s 6-1 win over Kazakhstan has set up the deciding game at Dumfries Ice Bowl.
 
Saffron Allen and Helen Emerson (powerplay) scored first period goals to settle GB nerves against a Kazakhstan team who, although bottom seeds in the group, make teams work for everything they get.
 
Kate Ord scored a brace inside four second period minutes, one of them shorthanded, before Kazakhstan were on the board themselves through a Karina Felzink breakaway.

Any thoughts of a Kazakh revival were squashed by Louisa Durnell’s powerplay strike in the first minute of the final period.  The icing on the cake was GB’s sixth and Kate Ord’s hat-trick at 48.06.
