British Ice Hockey 100 Year Dinner PDF Print E-mail

As part of the 100 years of British Ice Hockey Celebrations, a Dinner will be held on the 11th December at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries.

This event coincides with the IIHF Under 20 World Championships which are being held at the Dumfries Ice Bowl during the same week.

As well as a display of Ice Hockey memorabilia from the past 100 years being on display, the Stanley Cup will also be on display during the evening.

GBSC are pleased to announce they are holding an auction, for the shirts worn by the GB under 20 team which participated in the Alexei Cherepanov tournament held in Lithuania this August.

The shirts available are the blue set.

Starting bids are £50 per shirt with P&P at £3-50. There will be a £5 surcharge for any winning bidder that isn’t a member of GBSC.

Stanley Cup Comes Home PDF Print E-mail

The NHL's Stanley Cup is coming to the UK in December. Made in the UK, it is one of the world's most famous sporting trophies and is iconic in North America sport.

A special dinner to celebrate 100 years of British ice hockey is being held in Dumfries on Wednesday 11th December 2013 in conjunction with the Under-20 World Championship tournament, and the breathtaking trophy will be on show on the night.

The Cup is named after Lord Stanley, who was born in the UK in 1841. Frederick Arthur Stanley (1841-1908) - the 16th Earl of Derby - was known as Frederick Stanley until 1886 and as Lord Stanley of Preston between 1886 and 1893.

He was a Conservative Party politician in the UK, before becoming the sixth Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893.

An avid sportsman, he built the Stanley House Stables and is most famous for presenting the Stanley Cup. He was born in London and was educated at Eton and Sandhurst.

It is that time of year again when the Great Britain Ice Hockey Supporters Club (GBSC) committee starts planning the famous GBSC Annual Raffle.

As you all know, the Great Britain Ice Hockey Supporters Club (GBSC) exists to provide financially support to our national teams (senior, under 20s, under 18s, women’s and sledge hockey) in World, Olympic and European competitions. In order to provide this support we organise an annual prize draw and rely upon companies and individuals donating prizes to boost ticket sales.

This year’s annual raffle will be drawn at the Under 20’s World Championships in Dumfries, Scotland on Sunday 15th December 2013. Tickets will be distributed to all members in October to start selling.

New Manager for GB Women PDF Print E-mail

Lyn Burton has been appointed manager of the Great Britain Senior Women.

She has been manager of the Bracknell Queen Bees since 1998 and was instrumental in the growth of the club and the introduction of the Fire Bees and the U16 Ice Bees.

Lyn, who was born in West London, is also currently the manager of England and U16 South of England Under-16s girls' teams.

She said: "I am totally committed to women’s ice hockey and have been a part of the building of the Bracknell Queen Bees and the England girls’ programme.
