Following the IIHF Annual Congress, held this week in Bratislava, the venues for the 2012 IIHF tournaments have now been announced. 2012 will feature the Olympic Pre-Qualification tournament for the Sochi Winter Olympics (2014) aswell as the World Championship tournaments.
Ice Hockey UK had bid to host the Mens Senior Tournament which see's the men playing in Division 1A. Two teams will be promoted from this division to Pool A, and two teams will drop from Pool A into this division under the new structure announced on 12th May. The Great Britain bid lost out to Slovenia by 15 votes to 10. The men will travel to Ljubljana for the tournament which will either be held at the Hala Tivoli (same as 2007 & 2010) or the newly built Arena Stozice. Hala Tivoli will be expanded and upgraded if it is chosen as the venue.
The GB Mens U20's who won Bronze at the 2011 World Championships travel to Germany for the 2012 Tournament. No venue has been announced for the tournament yet. This will need to be chosen prior to the Semi-Annual Congress in September. The GB Men U18's will play in Division II A and travel to Heerenveenin Holland. The GB Women will be hosting the 2012 tournament in Hull. The GB Women U18 will have to wait until September to see if the Qualification tournament will be going ahead. The 2014 Olympic Pre-Qualification Tournaments for Men and Women will take place on the 8-11 November 2012. Venues are yet to be announced for these tournaments. The winners of these tournaments will progresses to the Qualification Tournament in February 2013. 2012 IIHF World Championship Program IIHF World Championship (Men)
